Assignments
Assignments are due every Wednesday in class. Late assignments will not be accepted unless an extension has been granted before the due date (one without good reason, unlimited with good reason). Discuss the assignments with classmates, with me, and at the problem session. But be sure to write up what you turn in by yourself, with no help from others.
Laboratory
All laboratory work is recorded in a bound, quadruled notebook. This includes taping the handout into the notebook and answering the pre-lab questions before coming to lab, along with recording notes, data, analysis and results during the laboratory. Laboratory notebooks are handed in at the end of the laboratory period.
Examinations
There will be 3 two-hour examinations, two during the semester on Monday evening and one during finals week. Students may bring a one-sided page of equations to the examinations.
Diagnostic Quizzes
Students are to download and take a diagnostic quiz to be handed in with each assignment. Each quiz is a timed, closed-book question similar to an examination question. Diagnostic quizzes are graded and returned, but do not affect course grades.
Grades
Interim and final grades are calculated using the following scheme: Assignments (30%), Examinations (50%), Laboratory (20%), plus a penalty for not handing in all diagnostic quizzes.
Course Website
Assignments, laboratory handouts, and course information are posted on Blackboard.
